It took four years for Richa Chadda, a budding actress to get noticed. The young actress made her debut in Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye, a comedy drama in 2008. However, it was her amazing performance in Gangs of Wasseypur- Part 1 and Part 2 which made even the critics take note of her. She was awarded the Filmfare Critics award for Best Actress, a rare accomplishment for the young actress.
Early Days: Richa Chadda was born in Amritsar, Punjab on 28 December 1988 and spent her formative years in New Delhi under the watchful eyes of her parents. Her father is from Punjab while her mother belongs to Bihar. Richa Chadda did her schooling from Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in 2002 and is a Bachelor in History from St. Stephen’s college in New Delhi. Her Bollywood Career: Richa began as a model and later shifted to theatre. She did train under Barry John and has performed plays in India and Pakistan. He debut in Bollywood was through a non-descript role in Oye Lucky!Lucky Oye. The real breakthrough for Richa Chadda came in 2012 when Anurag Kashyap cast her for his movies Gangs of Wasseypur Part 1 and Part 2. It was due to her spirited performance that the budding actress was able to play the role of Nagma Khatoon who matures from 16 to 60 during the course of the movie.
This movie premiered at Cannes Film Festival in 2012 and Richa Chadda was appreciated for her bold performance. Later Richa Chadda appeared in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s- Galiyon ki Rasleela- Ram-Leela. The movie was released on November 15, 2013. She also appeared in Fukrey, a Farhan Akhtar Production. Here she played the role of a female mafia don but her performance went unnoticed largely as the movie did not do well.
